My recent trip to Kyoto was filled with wonderful encounters. It allowed me to rediscover the joy of living mindfully and witness firsthand the ancient capital's dedication to preserving and innovating traditional culture and craftsmanship. Mr. Nakamura, a gentle and distinguished craftsman, has retired from the world of kimono making but continues to design coin purses using the kimono fabrics he cherishes. 【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】 The spirit of a dedicated artisan is evident in every detail and material choice. This piece features the refined Kyoto craft of 'Kanoko Shibori' tie-dyeing. Named for its resemblance to a fawn's spots, the intricate manual dyeing process is exceptionally complex and exquisite, resulting in unique patterns and colors. Consequently, these pieces are exceedingly rare, best appreciated with an "ichi-go ichi-e" (one time, one meeting) mindset. Mr. Nakamura's coin purses stand apart from those made with synthetic fibers or cotton commonly found elsewhere. However, after bringing it home and using it, I truly understood its value. With every opening and closing, I find myself marveling at it, growing more fond of it each day.
