For those new to the vintage scene, let me briefly explain. The Celine Planet/Gold Ball series (hereinafter referred to as "Planet") was produced roughly in the 80s-90s. The entire Planet series is extremely rare within CELINE vintage. Both the bags and various accessories are exceptionally scarce and not inexpensive! This is because the production volume for this series was originally small. The iconic gold ball is engraved with intricate star patterns, and the stars themselves have subtle textures within! It's incredibly exquisite! Most importantly, all the planets are plated with genuine K gold! In the past, CELINE had many different clasp designs. Even with the same "clasp shape," there were numerous variations in bag styles and clasp types (truly a golden era...). The bag clasps can be broadly categorized into semi-spherical, rotating, and three-dimensional. The latter are generally more expensive. Three-dimensional planets are often found in hanging or handbag styles. Three-dimensional planets require more careful preservation because their three-dimensional nature makes them more prone to oxidation and discoloration than semi-spherical or flat styles, hence their legendary rarity! CELINE is renowned in the vintage world for the exquisite craftsmanship of its clasps. The casting technology of that era is something modern styles simply cannot replicate! Setting aside the cost of genuine K gold plating, the precision of the bronze molds used for casting the clasps alone makes them incompatible with modern cost-effectiveness. However, today, the vast majority of processes are mechanized with minimal human assembly, losing the delicacy of the past. I believe the simplest and most direct way to see this is to compare the detailed level of vintage monogram patterns with those on newly reissued versions from recent years. The level of detail in the monogram patterns alone is entirely different. If you love monograms, you must seek out pre-owned pieces! Truly! In terms of style, older designs were generally simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many new styles today are actually revivals of older designs. However, new models are priced higher than their vintage counterparts. New designs are typically based on older models, with added details or altered designs. The final product often ends up being more complex (or peculiar......) than the older versions. I believe as we mature, we realize that simplicity endures! As we age, our clothing choices often return to basic styles because the more fundamental, the more versatile. The quality of raw materials in older models is also superior to newer ones. Anyone who understands leather can tell that the materials in new models are generally inferior to vintage ones. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is too high now, and their availability is less than before. Earth's resources are dwindling! Furthermore, brands in the past did not have the ubiquitous presence they do now, with stores everywhere... Their clientele typically had a certain income and high expectations for their purchases. There was no "fast fashion culture" back then; a bag was expected to be used for many years. The difference between new and old eras is clearly visible in the hardware. Many new models' hardware oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two of use, but vintage models typically do not. This is not only due to superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship but also because hardware from earlier eras was plated with genuine K gold! This is because many people will then frantically search for that model or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those few models to multiply... Therefore, vintage is truly a case of "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the vintage world...). This is based on my personal experience; I regret not entering the market earlier for many series. I can no longer find them, or if I do, the price is astronomical...
