We make every effort during the cutting process to avoid these imperfections or to position them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes into the leather. This technique is essential for achieving the beautiful, wavy stitch effect that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a product is finished, the edges are carefully burnished and sealed. This process ensures the leather edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Tangent Linear" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, a layer of edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Tangent Linear" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, the dye is applied repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water and wiped to remove any surface dust, further refining the color's evenness. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of each bag, ensuring that every item is unique.
