Burmese Pagoda Relic - 18th-19th Century Seated Tara Bodhisattva in Playful Pose - Height 12.9 cm

A Buddha statue recovered from a collapsed pagoda in the Mandalay region of Myanmar. Tara Bodhisattva in a playful seated posture. Estimated to be from the 18th-19th century (dealers who brought it back to Taiwan believed it to be even older...). Having handled artifacts for many years, it's prudent to conservatively estimate the age. This is a rather rare subject matter for Burmese Buddha statues. Tara is depicted in a playful seated posture, with the right hand in the Varada Mudra (gesture of wish-granting) and the left hand in the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness). There is a chip on the lower right corner of the sealed back. Bronze alloy. Total height 12.9 cm, base width 10.4 cm, weighing 745g. The exterior has been cleaned. Hard, cement-like soil adhering to the bronze Buddha has been removed.
