From a specialty coffee estate that has been in business for a century!
Hartmann is the most famous coffee family in Panama. Finca Hartmann is also the first farm to grow coffee in the Volcan region. It attaches great importance to quality and actively tries new farming practices. Ratibor Hartmann Troetsch inherited his father's coffee business in Santa Barbara, Volcan district, and established Troetsch Manor in 1940. He can be said to be the pioneer of the prestigious Volcan coffee producing area. The most special thing about Lao Teman is his respect for the natural environment. His father bought 500 hectares of land, most of which was forest. After Terman inherited the farmland, his friends persuaded him to cut down all the forest and grow coffee on a large area to make money. Terman did not listen to his friends' advice and instead retained most of the virgin forest. Starting from Lao Terman, he became the object of academic cooperation between the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and other wildlife conservation institutions. Scholars went to the park to conduct research and discovered many protected species and birds. Not only did they write academic Papers, also recorded bird calls. The third generation of Terman grew up in the manor. Not only did he continue the old Terman's coffee garden, but he also continued the family's positive attitude towards forest conservation. Even the manor's trademark uses the words "Bird Friendly".
Teman Manor is located in the Baru volcanic area. The soil is nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and the towering virgin forests provide the best environment for shade cultivation. Coffee grown in the shade grows slower and can brew higher sweetness and acidity. bright. The Chiriqui Volcan alpine microclimate has also become an excellent foundation for Teman coffee. The lowest altitude of the manor is above 1,200 meters, and the temperature is suitable. The varieties of beans grown are very diverse: Typica, Caturra, Catuaí, Bourbón, Paché, Pacamara, Elephant (Maragogipe) Wait, more and more "Geisha" has been planted in recent years. The estate itself not only produces excellent coffee, but also assists nearby estates in processing cherries.
The manor is currently managed by the five sons and daughters of Hartmann, led by the eldest, Ratibor Hartmann Jr.
