Typically, there would be two simultaneously in use: one to iron with and one being heated up on the stove or in the fire. This piece is smaller and lighter than usual "sad irons" and was likely used for finer garments.
This piece is in fair condition with signs of aging and usage that are representative of its age. the mark at the top has become unclear due to aging. The photographs are a part of the description.
