A Buddha statue unearthed from a collapsed stupa in the Mandalay region of Myanmar.
The Buddha is depicted in the earth-touching gesture (Bhumisparsha mudra) symbolizing overcoming temptation, set against a halo and pedestal.
The estimated age is around the 18th-19th century (dealers who brought it to Taiwan believed it to be even older...).
Having handled artifacts for many years, it's prudent to conservatively estimate the age.
The sealing clay at the base of the statue is intact.
Bronze alloy.
Total height 19.2cm, base width 10.2cm, weight 1240g.
The exterior has been cleaned.
Hard, cement-like soil encrustations have been removed from the bronze Buddha, along with most of the green patina and oxidation.
