Quell the Souls - Rainbow Bridge Pearl Fabric Badge The Theme of Quell the Souls - Rainbow Bridge: Wushe Incident - Button Badge ◤ Story Behind the Design ◢ "Quell the Souls" is a series of works by Shao Wei exploring Taiwanese history, bringing to light memories often omitted from textbooks. The aim is to remember fragmented histories and transform tragic events into gentle stories, fostering wider understanding and appreciation. The "Rainbow Bridge" depicts the Wushe Incident of 1930. The Soul Guide – Sisin, the ancestral bird that believes in the rainbow, carries petals of the scarlet cherry blossom and places them upon the heads of the fallen warriors. On the petals, it is written: "ハヤクコウサンスルモノハコロサナイ" (Those who surrender quickly will not be killed). After the Japanese army's gas attacks, the Seediq people, suffering from the poison, chose to end their lives. However, taking their own lives did not align with the warrior spirit of the indigenous people.
