The leaves of the Serissa japonica are small, and its trunk exhibits an aged, textured bark. It is easy to shape, creating the effect of a large presence in a small form, making it a classic bonsai material. This Serissa japonica, with exposed roots, is nearly 20 years old. Its interwoven and coiled root system is beautifully layered and full of dimension. The designer has carefully selected key branches, creating deliberate negative space between them to enhance the concept of a grand presence within a compact form. This is a specimen worthy of collection and cultivation. Serissa japonica blooms and fruits from April to November. The fruit transforms from green to red, growing in size over a month. The mature red fruit stage lasts about 20 days, with fruits measuring 0.4-0.8 cm. Flowering occurs almost year-round. Pollination within 1-2 days of blooming leads to fruiting. After flowering, fertilizing and pruning encourage new branch growth, which then develop flower buds. You can enjoy its beauty up to three times a year; in the sunny central and southern regions, it may even bloom four times.
