This necklace is crafted by connecting two types of Indian beads, heart-shaped Afghan metal, ethnic bells, Shan carnelian, ancient agate, bumpy brass, and old Chin silver & Orissa brass.
The heart-shaped component hails from Afghanistan, featuring a raised, textured pattern on both sides. Its beautifully intricate and striking design is truly captivating, with a gently rounded form. This is an old piece, likely once part of a larger adornment.
(Heart-shaped component size: 2.5cm vertical, 1.3cm horizontal - including the loop.)
The top of the piece opens slightly.
The small bells are also from the Kuchi tribe of Afghanistan. Please note, these bells do not produce a ringing sound.
The two types of blue beads are antique beads from India, dating approximately from the 19th to early 20th century. Their hues vary slightly between the left and right sides, offering a unique, uneven charm.
(Bead size: 3-4mm)
The orange beads, with their beautiful dawn-like gradation, are carnelian once used by the Shan people of Myanmar. While the exact period is unknown, they are over 50 years old.
(Vintage carnelian size: 1cm vertical, 0.6cm diameter)
The bumpy beads are brass beads crafted by the Benin tribe of Africa, showcasing incredibly fine detailing.
A single, small ancient agate bead has been incorporated. This bead was unearthed in regions around the Indus River, such as Pakistan and India, and is approximately 2,000 years old. Its milky white hue, with slight irregularities and minor imperfections, adds to its unique character.
A translucent white heart bead has been placed near the clasp.
The plump silver beads flanking the top piece are extremely rare old Chin silver, originating from the 18th-19th century and transmitted through generations. These were used by Chin women for necklaces and adornments, displaying a distinct patina and cherished marks of age. Their substantial feel and presence are unparalleled compared to modern silver (though beautiful modern pieces do exist...). These antique beads have seen a significant increase in value in recent years.
The golden beads are old Orissa brass, ancient and rare beads from the Orissa region of India. The charm attached to the clasp is also an old brass component from India.
The slightly bent clasp and the beads on the loop are Karen silver. Each tiny Karen silver bead on the clasp is individually stamped, a meticulous process that is truly awe-inspiring.
About Karen Silver:
This silver is crafted by a hill tribe living in Myanmar and Thailand. Each piece is handmade, and the silver is said to be of very high purity.
The necklace is strung on waxed cord, which may feel slightly stiff initially but will become supple with wear.
This colorful necklace allows you to fully appreciate the charm of antique beads.
