This lacquer seal pendant from the Georgian period in the UK in the 1820s is made of 9k gold cased, and the heraldic material is white chalcedony.
Gold cased, also known as rolled gold, was invented in Birmingham, England in 1785. It is different from the gole filled method invented in the United States, which uses heat and pressure to coat the entire base metal with gold. The method is to first weld gold to the base metal (usually Bronze or Silver), and then use mechanical pressing to press the two metals into a material. For jewelry made of shell gold, the gold will look like a shell. Wrapping it on the outermost surface is a more durable manufacturing method than gold plate.
The work is small in size but very delicate. The overall appearance has a highly decorative and rich outline. The coat of arms is warm and translucent white chalcedony, with a complete forget-me-not flower engraved on it, including the iconic five-petal flower shape, accompanied by the bud. With its delicate zigzag leaf shape, this flower blooms in spring. In addition to the romantic connotation in its name, it also represents eternal sincerity.
The pendant is in good antique condition, with normal signs of oxidation and wear. There is a 2mm gold loss on the heraldic frame. The pattern is complete without obvious loss. It is a century-old antique jewelry and is not in new condition.
