**> Types of Cinnabar**
Water-ground Sand, Emperor Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand are all considered high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods**.
**「Water-ground Sand」**
**True red with a slight orange undertone. Its surface has a warm, matte luster that will become brighter with wear, developing a patina.**
The manufacturing process involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing it with water, allowing it to settle, collecting the "cloudy liquid" from the top, and then letting it settle again (water-grinding purification). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Even on the cross-section, uniform, tiny mineral flecks can be seen.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**The color leans towards a pure red, with a brighter hue and higher hardness.**
The manufacturing process begins with natural raw cinnabar ore, which undergoes multiple stages of purification, including **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-grinding/high polishing**, before being pressed using ancient methods. Emperor Sand has almost no visible mineral flecks on the surface, but has them internally. The surface is treated with a **high-polishing** technique to achieve a metallic sheen, especially under sunlight, enhancing its metallic feel.
**「Purple Gold Sand」**
**The color is a purplish-red, and its hardness is slightly lower than Emperor Sand.**
The manufacturing process involves multiple stages of **crushing/grinding/screening** from natural raw cinnabar ore, but it **does not undergo water-grinding purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has scattered small mineral flecks, giving a "stars in the sky" appearance.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
These are large cinnabar particles directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystal grains are clearly visible on the surface, and under light, they appear transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**
**Everything that unfolds, everything poetic, everything beautiful in this world, often happens naturally, much like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, revere the power of time, and allow everything to grow naturally. Like a tree, grow with focus and without fear, developing clear growth rings.**
**Our handcrafted work is just the same!!**
**> About Cinnabar**
The earliest documented records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogram. In ancient times, miners would dig wells and extract minerals from them. Thus, the character "丹" is actually the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a dug well, and that something was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregularly granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar is enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable component of pigments, and the "Eight Treasures Seal Paste," one of the main ingredients, is also cinnabar.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon. It absorbs the positive energy of heaven and earth, thus possessing a strong positive magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm when held.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals such as drawing talismans, consecration, warding off evil, and suppressing negative energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for enhancing luck, transforming fortune, suppressing evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, wealth, and well-being.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" lists cinnabar as a high-grade medicinal substance, often used in treatments to calm the nerves, detoxify, and alleviate insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also help cultivate one's character, soothe the eyes, and calm the mind.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can use the following methods for authentication:**
. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as it is difficult to control the time and area. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
. Real cinnabar can draw an orangey-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please scratch on an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead for scratching.)
**> Care Instructions**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not contain metal, wood, or plant-based components (such as Bodhi seeds), it can be exposed to water in moderation, but prolonged soaking is not advisable as it can affect its luster.**
**It is not recommended to expose braided cord bracelets to water. After cleaning, they should be air-dried before wearing, as damp cords can lead to excessive moisture, which is not ideal for well-being.**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and is insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar will release at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If you find your cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original radiance! You can wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oiling Method for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil, making it more luminous and clear. If applying oil, you can then seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person with your hands. This allows a very thin layer of oil to adhere to the surface, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual item is even more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
