Late 19th Century French Brass Dessert Forks with Faux Green Agate Handles, Set of Seven
Over a century of French elegance, a rare treasure selected from thousands.
This is not an unattainable set of sterling silver cutlery, nor delicate mother-of-pearl, but rather French tableware with a rich, everyday charm. In the afternoons of France's "Belle Époque" in the late 19th century, these types of utensils were often found on the tables of the middle class, embodying their pursuit and longing for refined living.
【Materials and Craftsmanship】
• Handle Material: Crafted using early Celluloid techniques, precisely mimicking the translucence and flowing textures of natural "green agate." The semi-transparent quality reveals layered depths like wisps of cloud in the light, with each handle's pattern being a unique work of art.
• Metal Components: Beautiful brass that, after being polished by time, emanates a warm, lustrous golden glow. The sides of the fork tines feature a classic notched design, allowing you to elegantly cut through desserts or cakes as if with a blade, blending aesthetics with practicality.
• Design Details: The exquisite floral embossing at the joint and the flowing lines of the fork tines perfectly interpret the classic aesthetics of the period transitioning from Art Nouveau to Art Deco.
【A Rare Find, Selected from Thousands】
The most remarkable aspect of this set is its "condition."
Due to its chemical properties and different expansion rates from metal, most antique Celluloid items develop severe cracks or damage over a century of wear.
This set of 7 dessert forks is the refined selection from two sets (a total of 24 pieces) of the same antique model, meticulously compared and rigorously screened, one by one.
With a rejection rate of nearly 70%, these 7 are the rare survivors, completely free of cracks and in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Although there are slight variations in the metal embossing due to different workshop batches in early production (please refer to the last two images; one set of 3 pieces, the other set of 4 pieces), this precisely records its historical journey spanning over a century and its authentic warmth of use.
