Pottery Brooch: Camellia - Oki no Nami

I had always envisioned creating a camellia with a shibori pattern if I ever made one. Size: Approx. Crafting Process: Starting with a sketch, I shape the clay, allowing it to dry slightly before refining the form through repeated steps. I create enough pieces to fill the kiln evenly over approximately one month. The initial bisque firing takes 7 hours, after which the pieces are wiped with water and each individually glazed before a 12-hour main firing. Some pieces receive a gold glaze and are fired again for 7 hours. Due to the need for slow cooling, I wait about 2 days after each firing before removing the pieces from the kiln. Finally, I select the best pieces and attach the pin backs one by one. My success rate is currently around 70%. This process requires significant time and effort, but the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the durability of pottery, the luster of the glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents. I believe this is a piece that can be cherished for a long time, remaining unchanged.
