➤ Discover the enduring beauty of antique jewelry, designed to last and resist fading!
➤ Product Description
Spanish Damascene craftsmanship, a metal inlay technique, traces its origins back over 2000 years to Damascus, the capital of Syria. It was later introduced to the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) in the early 8th century with the Moorish invasions.
Spanish Damascene pieces often feature motifs of birds, flowers, and Islamic geometric patterns.
The process involves creating a base from iron or a copper alloy, etching fine lines onto the surface, and then meticulously hammering thin sheets of real gold and silver to form intricate patterns and inlay them. A layer of lacquer is applied and fired to prevent oxidation and corrosion of the base metal. This is followed by polishing and fine micro-engraving techniques before the piece is finally set into jewelry.
【Characteristics of Damascene Craftsmanship】
(1) Oxidized metal base: The metal base has a black appearance.
(2) Hand-chiseled: Engravings are typically concave with well-defined outlines.
(3) Cicada-wing thin gold and silver foil: Hand-hammered into the chiseled grooves, the foil is delicate and fine.
