“Kinkazan-ori... it's just such a fascinating fabric!” That was our reaction when we first discovered this mysterious textile at a materials fair in Kobe. My friends and I were immediately drawn in—captivated by the texture, the richness, and the uniqueness of the weave itself. Later, I had the opportunity to work with Kinkazan-ori professionally, and came to learn that it’s far more than just a pretty fabric. It’s a traditional Japanese woven textile, made in Wakayama by skilled artisans. It’s durable, luxurious, and subtly shifts in color depending on the angle—truly a fabric full of depth. Rather than being bound by traditional images of what Kinkazan-ori should be, I wanted to embrace what first pulled me in—its sheer fun as a textile. I started combining it with different materials, experimenting freely with forms and styles. This piece is the result of that playful, joyful process—designed to bring this beautiful fabric into everyday life, in a way that feels natural and modern. And so, re:kinsha was born.
