This is a single earring featuring Dogon violet beads, silvery Roman glass beads, and abundant ethnic bells.
The beads, in a semi-transparent violet hue and boasting a beautiful pentagonal polyhedral shape, are heirlooms passed down through the Dogon people of Africa. These are trade beads crafted in the Netherlands between the 17th and 19th centuries.
The Dogon are said to possess profound astronomical knowledge. While blue beads resembling the sky or clear (semi-transparent) ones like spiders are commonly found, this violet color is rare and highly sought after. They are in excellent condition without any cracks.
(Dogon bead size: Height 1cm, Width 1.2cm)
Nested within the Dogon beads is a Venetian antique bead in blue.
The blue bead is a precious piece of Roman glass, originally crafted as a bead during the Roman era and used in adornments like necklaces.
Roman glass dates back to the Roman Empire (27 BCE - 395 CE).
*A faint, silvery iridescence is visible.
Silvery iridescence occurs when glass, buried underground for extended periods, undergoes a chemical reaction with the soil, creating this sparkling sheen. This phenomenon doesn't happen to all buried glass; it only appears when multiple conditions align.
(Roman glass size: Height 0.6cm, Width 0.7cm)
The small bells are components from the Kuchi tribe of Afghanistan. They were originally attached to decorative items and are also antique pieces.
This single earring offers the charm and profound depth of antique glass.
