Kyoto Unsodo Landscape Postcard - Mt. Fuji Series - Morning Fuji / Night Fuji / Evening Fuji - Cards & Postcards - Paper

Product Description

Unsodo was founded in the 24th year of the Meiji era as a publisher of art books employing woodblock printing techniques. The company name originated from a calligraphy gifted by the literati painter Tessai Tomioka, which read "芸, 香草也" (Gei, a fragrant herb). "Unsō" (芸艸) refers to a perennial herbaceous plant of the Rutaceae family, known as "Rue" in English. It is distinct from the simplified Chinese character "芸" for "art." In the 7th year of the Taisho era, a Tokyo branch was established, focusing on publishing pattern reference books and photograph collections for kimono accessories and crafts, as well as producing woodblock prints for appreciation. Today, only a handful of woodblock printing publishers remain in Kyoto and Tokyo. Among them, Unsodo is the sole publisher in Japan of hand-pulped woodblock prints in traditional Japanese binding, and continues to produce reproductions of many existing works. ※ The color of the product image may vary slightly due to differences in computer monitor settings.
