Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and durable texture. The surface color gradually darkens. Additionally, the oils and natural wear from daily use, combined with the natural oils from your hands, create a lustrous patina. This allows items made from vegetable-tanned leather to develop unique transformations over time, reflecting the user's habits. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Therefore, farmers do not take special measures to protect the cattle's skin. As a result, cattle may sustain insect bites, scratches, or punctures during their lives. Free-ranging cattle might also bear branding marks. As they grow, they develop natural grain patterns and wrinkles. In cases of difficult births for cows, there may be surgical closure marks. When cattle are large enough for slaughter, the skinning process can also result in knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it's processed, serving as proof of the animal's life journey. While this results in a clean surface, it loses the natural character. At DOZI Handmade Leather, we generally do not avoid using these natural markings from the cattle unless they are excessively large. Therefore, this service cannot be used on darker leather colors such as black, dark blue, etc. - Some products require laser engraving before production. Ready-made items cannot be laser engraved and must be scheduled separately. Please contact customer service to inquire about production timelines if you choose this service. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and let it air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. After air drying, you can apply leather conditioner to replenish the leather's oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent on the surface to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. If the leather item needs to be stored or will not be used for an extended period, place it in an electronic dehumidifier and maintain humidity between 50% and 60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, you can use a sealed bag with a desiccant packet for a similar effect. Therefore, there may be slight variations in color, texture, and natural markings. If you require a flawless, pristine leather surface, it may be difficult for us to accommodate your request, and we regret that we cannot accept requests for "perfectly clean leather." Furthermore, once customization, such as engraving or laser etching, has been applied, returns will not be accepted unless there was a manufacturing error.
