This course centers around the theme of a "New Year's Candy Box," leading students through the entire hands-on sewing process from concept to completion. At the beginning of the class, the instructor will explain the structural principles of the candy box and guide students in drafting their own patterns. They will learn how to divide a circular pattern into six equal parts, understanding how a three-dimensional shape is constructed from a flat pattern. This ensures students don't just follow instructions but truly grasp the underlying structural logic.
Next, the course moves into material preparation and fusing instruction, covering the pairing and appropriate use of outer fabric, light fusible interfacing, heavy fusible interfacing, and batting. The instructor will demonstrate proper fusing methods and cooling techniques to ensure the finished product is stable, retains its shape, and is resistant to deformation. Students will also learn about often-overlooked yet crucial details, such as using a marble slab for cooling after fusing and trimming seam allowances to 0.5 cm. These key steps directly influence the finished item's three-dimensionality and refinement.
During the sewing phase, the instructor will demonstrate the sewing order and precautions step-by-step, helping students maintain a steady rhythm while operating the sewing machine and making timely adjustments to lines and structure. Finally, snap fasteners will be installed, giving the candy box its functional opening and closing mechanism and bringing the project to a complete close.
Through this class, students will not only complete a practical item filled with New Year's spirit but also build a holistic understanding of pattern structure, material selection, and the quality of details.
