Wind chimes are produced in Odawara city, Kanagawa prefecture, where heartland of cast metal products for more than 800 years. Base of a wind chime which is made with bamboo is certified as a Japanese traditional crafts is produced in Shizuoka city, Shizuoka prefecture.
The materials of brass metal, used for the wind chimes, are specially blended for playing beautiful tone. The brass metals are heated into very high temperature then casted into the mold. As the last step of the production, the chimes are polished patiently one by one. Wined bells have been heralded for an interior art as an amulet or lucky charm since early time in Japan.
In Japanese, wind chime is pronounced as “Nari-mono”, which sounds the similar as another word “Nari agari-mono” which means successful person. For such reason, people appreciate wind chime as lucky item.
Traditional meisters of the base of a wind charm carefully chop bamboo uniformed thickness and make them circle one by one. The products by this technique are called” Suruga takesensujizaiku”.
