🌸 The Synonym for Japanese Ceramics
The Hometown of Maneki-neko – Seto Ware
✨ Seto ware is a collective term for ceramics produced in and around Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. Originating in the Kamakura period, it is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, boasting a history of 1300 years. In 1977, Seto ware was designated a Traditional Japanese Craft by the Japanese government, and in 2017, it was recognized as "Japan Heritage." It is also where glazed pottery and ceramic Maneki-neko were first produced, earning it the name "hometown of Maneki-neko." In Japanese, "Setomono" is even a synonym for ceramics, highlighting its widespread recognition and representative status.
🐱 The legend of the Maneki-neko is said to have originated in Japan's Edo period. For a long time, it has been regarded as a lucky charm for good fortune and beckoning prosperity, bringing success in business, happiness in the home, and a multitude of customers.
This piece features a glossy yellow, shimmering glaze and is hand-painted. The golden, smiling Maneki-neko holds a jewel symbolizing wealth, believed to bring both fortune and blessings, thus earning the name "Smiling Fortune Beckoning Cat." It also functions as a piggy bank, inviting good luck and retaining wealth. ✨ This is a limited production, making it exceptionally rare.
