Normal bumps are relatively harmless, but it's still advisable to be cautious (e.g., avoid dropping it on the floor). The connector at the end of the chain is a C-clasp; pulling it forcefully can enlarge the opening and cause it to loosen. Do not pull hard. Occasionally, you can open the bottle cap to air it out. For example, after every 4-5 uses, open the cap to allow the inside of the bottle and the cap to dry completely.
