This large wheel-thrown chawan was made in my small pottery workshop here in Taiwan.
I used local Taiwanese clay to make this tea bowl. I glazed the bowl in a Japanese traditional glazed called shino.
The end result was a slightly iridescent sheen, where the colors seem to change when viewed from different angles.
I really pushed the clay to its limits with this bowl. The final product is one that has a feeling of being on the edge, but ultimately surviving and staying strong.
I hand-carved the foot ring, adding to the handmade feel of the bowl.
I also stamped my seal and a map of Taiwan at the base.
This bowl was many aspects that will keep you engaged as you drink your tea. I believe a good tea bowl should be able to tell a story. The story will be yours to explore.
Be the owner of a handmade tea bowl from the beautiful island of Taiwan.
