| Zhenglai Window Grille Exquisite Craftsmanship |
From Yong Mao Woodcraft in Changhua, window grilles were once a source of pride in Lukang during the 1970s. Yong Mao Woodcraft originally produced a large volume of interior building materials, accumulating extensive expertise in wooden window grilles. We aspire to use design and ingenuity to transform the techniques and significance of window grilles from mere large architectural elements into everyday household items.

Master Chen Huang-Hui, the national treasure craftsman of Zhenglai Woodcraft window grilles – now renamed Yong Mao Woodcraft #MasterChenHuangHui, boasts sixty years of window grille craftsmanship. This technique requires no nails or rivets, relying solely on hand-carving combined with traditional machinery to create mortise and tenon joinery, assembling precisely cut wooden pieces into intricate and delicate patterns. Known as Kumiko joinery in Japan and referred to as window grille craftsmanship in Taiwan, Zhenglai's artistry is truly astonishing. Yong Mao Woodcraft, in its early days, focused on mass-producing interior building materials, thereby amassing significant Japanese window grille techniques. Through thoughtful design, we aim to elevate this craft beyond large building components, miniaturizing it into practical everyday items. Thanks to the invaluable assistance of our master craftsmen, we are thrilled to introduce our entirely new range of window grille products this year.
