The Tang Dynasty marked the inception of blue and white porcelain, but during that period, it was not predominant and significantly differed from the blue and white porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty. In the Yuan Dynasty, the introduction of the dye "Sumali Qing" from the Western Regions elevated blue and white porcelain to its artistic pinnacle. Originating from Persia, this dye, rich in iron content, bestowed vibrant and layered colors, forming crystalline patterns resembling black. Yuan blue and white porcelain featured a white porcelain body, transparent glaze, cobalt oxide blue pigment, applied with a brush to draw patterns and inscriptions on the unglazed body. Additionally, the Yuan blue and white adopted a dual formula of porcelain stone and kaolin for the body, allowing for high-temperature single firing. These innovations garnered significant attention, making Yuan blue and white porcelain a highlight in the contemporary art scene.
