WE ARE THE PIGS™'s first project is "A Hundred Tales of Hong Kong Ghosts" (abbreviated as "Ghost Tales"). As Hong Kong lyricist Lin Xi once said, "The existence of ghost stories is what makes Hong Kong precious." Local ghost legends often reflect the social conditions, atmosphere, and unique historical background of their time, making them worthy of documentation and preservation. Our aim is to gather Hong Kong's folk ghost legends spanning a century, inviting everyone to explore Hong Kong's historical culture and identity.
"Ghost Tales" uses "Shokugan" (small toy) stickers as a medium to interpret Hong Kong's ghost legends. This type of sticker first appeared in Japanese snack packaging in 1977, typically measuring 4.8 x 4.8cm, and was commonly called "chocolate cookie stickers," "Shokugan stickers," or "cookie stickers." In the 80s and 90s, influenced by Japanese pop culture, these "Shokugan" stickers became a collective childhood memory for many Hongkongers. We have systematically compiled 100 ghost stories and combined them with Shokugan stickers into a new media format, visually documenting a "Yokai Encyclopedia" for Hongkongers.
This project will release 100 Shokugan stickers themed around Hong Kong's ghost legends. For each story, we have created a unique monster character and a brief introduction. The stickers feature special printing effects such as laser flash, hot stamping, and silver foil, enhancing the collectibility of "A Hundred Tales of Hong Kong Ghosts."
The "A Hundred Tales of Hong Kong Ghosts" sticker series collects local ghost stories, with original illustrations and text bringing mysterious events to life. Volume 4 features "The Blue-Green Dragon of Lam Tin," "The Mud Mother and Child of Tsui Lam," "The Faceless Ghost of Wah Fu Estate," and "The Headless Ghost of Yun Tau Tong."
