During the firing process, components like potassium, sodium, and calcium from the wood ash combine with the mineral elements in the clay at high temperatures, creating natural ash glaze on the ceramic body. Wood firing reaches temperatures above 1300 degrees Celsius. The fusion of clay and fire allows the colors of the mug to flow naturally, creating wondrous variations. During firing, natural ash glaze drips onto the kiln shelf, requiring subsequent polishing. While often resulting in masterpieces, they are rare and cannot be perfectly preserved.
