【Impression Dynasty・Chen Yongqing Lotus Seed Pot】
Dynasty: Late Ming Dynasty / Ingredients: Purple clay / Capacity: 190cc
Chen Yongqing, a famous purple clay teapot artist in the Ming Dynasty, commonly known as "Chen Sandaizi", is a well-known teapot maker with a verifiable history and a very personal style. The Yangxian Teapot Ode says that it is "named for its purity and elegance".
The Yangxian Teapot Collection also states: "The young man has great skills and his designs are exquisite, such as lotus seeds, soup bowls, alms bowls, and round beads. They are irregular but round, and extremely beautiful. The styles are inspired by the calligraphy of Master Zhong."
Yongqing is good at making teapots with short necks, straight lines, and a thick and majestic appearance. He often engraves his name directly on the body of the teapot with a bamboo knife. His simplicity and elegance are reflected in his work, making him a model of teapot art in the Ming Dynasty.
This purple clay round pot inherits the lotus seed shape. The pot body is round and full, solid and restrained. The round lid and round button complement each other. The lotus seed image contains the meaning of auspiciousness and wealth. The overall proportions are well-proportioned, stable and elegant, reflecting the typical aesthetics of the Ming Dynasty.
The body of the teapot is engraved with a poem in regular cursive script: "The bird has not yet experienced the March rain, and the morning flowers have already occupied a branch of spring." The poetic elegance matches the tea ceremony and echoes the spring buds. The signature "Yongqing" is written in a flowing cursive script with a freehand knife technique, a clumsy but not vulgar style, which is a vivid display of Chen Yongqing's personalized engraving style.
Since the end of the Ming Dynasty, there have been many teapot makers in Yixing, but Chen Yongqing was able to go down in history with his unique style. His vessels, his styles, and the man himself can all be regarded as treasures among teapots, and obtaining one is like seeing the ancient man in person.
【Frequently Asked Questions】
1. How to open the kettle before use
Scrub the inside and outside thoroughly. It is recommended to use a sponge, but do not use any chemical agents. Simply put, just wash it with water and you can use it normally.
2. How to soak
Keep it clean and dry during and after use, otherwise tea stains may form. Place in ventilated place after use. If you want to store it in a box for a long time, you need to dry it naturally for 1-2 months to allow the moisture in the pores to evaporate fully, otherwise it will easily become moldy.
3. How to clean tea stains or mold?
Use enzyme soaking.
4. Warm the kettle correctly
When the weather is cold, or if the pot has not been used for a long time, please use 40 degrees Celsius warm water to pour inside and outside the pot, then fill the pot up to allow the purple clay pores to fully absorb the water.
5. How to care for engraved works
There are carvings on the body of the pot, so it is recommended to use a brush to clean it.
