"Hotchikisu" (ホッチキス) is the Japanese loanword for stapler. The Hotchkiss No. 1 is the genesis of modern continuous staplers. Patented on December 1, 1896, production began in 1901. It was introduced to Japan in the 36th year of the Meiji era (1903), leading the Japanese of that time to adopt the brand name as the name for staplers.
This is a rare antique piece of stationery, showing signs of use and the passage of time on its exterior. It comes with two rows of original fishbone-shaped staples (as these are consumables, they are even rarer than the stapler itself. It is currently very difficult to find these specific staples for sale on the second-hand market, let alone original ones).
I currently have multiple units in my collection and am parting with one. Each stapler has slight variations in appearance and condition, but all are in proper working order. For further details, please feel free to send a message to discuss. Thank you!
