These rustic paper clay dolls are crafted from recycled milk cartons and old paper.
They are small Daruma dolls, embodying a wish for abundant good fortune.
Recycled paper is formed into a clay-like consistency, kneaded, and dried. Then, Japanese paper and pulp from the core of milk cartons are applied.
Leveraging the inherent strength of dried paper, the finish resembles stone or ceramic.
Unlike hollow papier-mâché, these paper clay dolls are solid and sturdily constructed.
While preserving the pure white and natural texture of the paper, patterns are added using sumi ink and a branding iron.
Each piece is hand-kneaded and shaped individually, rather than being molded, ensuring that no two are exactly alike. Please understand this uniqueness.
These are not weighted to stand upright like an *okiagari* doll.
