When I first took Kogin embroidery classes, my teacher's initial assignment was to make a drawstring pouch.
Although the pouch I made as a complete beginner was usable, it naturally had a multitude of minor flaws that could be pointed out.
Now, the pouches I create can finally pass my own quality control.
Practice truly does lead to improvement ̮̈♡
This time, I've used treasured Japanese cat fabric to create a pouch,
enhanced with the traditional "Neko no Managu" (cat's eye) motif from Kogin embroidery.
It's truly the perfect combination~
The pouch features a gusseted bottom, allowing it to hold even more small essentials.
*Fabric is limited, so each drawstring pouch is a limited edition release.*

**[ The Story of Kogin Embroidery ]**
Kogin embroidery is an embroidery technique originating from the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture, Japan. During the late Edo period, under the sumptuary law "Noka Kensetsu Bunrenrei" (which restricted the extravagance of farmers), commoners were prohibited from using cotton fabric. However, clothing made from hemp fabric could not withstand the long, snowy, and damp climate of the Tohoku region. Thus, farmers began threading stitches through the gaps in the hemp fabric to improve insulation and strengthen the cloth, leading to the development of "Kogin embroidery."
Embroidery involves counting the warp threads of the fabric (simply put, counting the squares) and executing running stitches row by row. If even one square is missed, the entire section must be unpicked and redone. Therefore, every stitch in Kogin embroidery is a test of eyesight and patience, a craft that is both delicate and tenacious.
