**MUSIC OF THE CLASSICAL PERIOD**
The Classical period (1750-1820) saw significant changes in music, transitioning from the late Baroque era. While Baroque musicians often served royalty and nobility, public concerts began to gain popularity, and the printing and publication of sheet music flourished. Musicians gradually gained independence from the patronage of courts and churches. Artists in this era pursued objective rationality, expressing emotions subtly. Forms were clear, phrases were concise, melodies were beautiful and elegant, and structures and phrases emphasized perfect symmetry. The harpsichord was the most common keyboard instrument during the Baroque period, but its limited ability to express dynamics made it insufficient as the demand for dynamic variation grew. The piano emerged in response. The Classical period witnessed revolutionary developments in instruments, most notably the invention of the piano.
Melodies are beautiful and elegant, with a musical structure reminiscent of Tang poetry.
