Artwork Introduction_ This work is from Elon Howard Eaton's book Birds of New York, which features a chromolithographic interior color palette created by Louis Agassiz Fuertes for the New York State Museum Series. In 1910 and 1914, the New York State Museum published two volumes of studies of New York's native birds. This vast catalog, covering hundreds of species, was illustrated by Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1874-1927), a rising star in the field of ornithological research. Fuertes was greatly influenced by John James Audubon's Birds of America, and he would go on to become second only to Audubon in the production and recognition of ornithological illustrations.
