On Labor Day morning, the women of the household boil taro in a pot and vigorously pound it into a mash with a wooden stick. The mashed taro is then spread onto a plate or leaf, and taroy (long smoked meat) is lightly charred over a fire, allowing its smoky aroma to drizzle over the nimey 🤤. Paired with the family's catch of flying fish and teyngi, it creates a truly sumptuous Labor Day feast 😍. Many of the island's traditional dishes are labor-intensive, and nimey is a favorite for many friends, though it typically appears only on Labor Day or for other special celebratory occasions...
