｜Production Group: Creative Handicraft ｜ Founded in 1984, it aims to help socially disadvantaged women suffering from poverty and economic independence in the slums of Mumbai, a metropolitan city in India. The goal is to create a self-sufficient and sustainable community that respects human rights and is free of caste, gender and religious discrimination. Founder Sister Isabel Martin believed that the best way to help the poor was to provide employment opportunities, so she founded Creative Handicrafts in 1984 to teach poor women how to make toys, bags and textiles. We provide training opportunities for women, teaching them everything from how to produce clothes and fabrics to how markets work so that they can make a living. In addition to providing employment opportunities, we continue to be actively involved in Fair Trade activities, such as providing sewing skills instruction, operating day care centers and supporting scholarships for children. Over the years, many women have taken advantage of their technical training. For example, some women started new businesses, while others worked for partner companies. In addition, women who do not have the skills to become seamstresses are trained in cooking and serve lunch to many office workers in Mumbai as part of the lunch box catering scheme. Many women support family finances by being the breadwinners of their families.
