Tie pins, also known as tie clips, gained popularity around the 1830s. Initially worn by wealthy gentlemen, they became widely fashionable in the 19th century. Their primary function was to secure the folds of silk and lace neckties and cravats.
As they were worn by a specific clientele, the materials and designs tended to be quite distinctive.
This heavily textured, twisted knot pin was acquired in France. The main body is substantial, and the overall condition is very good.
There are very minor marks, too indistinct to decipher.
It measures 6.8 cm in length, with the small knot ball being 0.8 cm.
