This handwoven wool long scarf is crafted primarily with Merino wool, accented with mohair and art yarn. As a long-type scarf, we use cotton for the warp threads to keep it lightweight and manageable in thickness.
The design is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale, "The Little Match Girl."
One side features vibrant red yarn, representing the warm, hazy indoor scenes that appear each time the girl strikes a match.
The opposite side incorporates white, green, and art yarn to create a bird's-eye view of the bustling, cold streetscape where the girl stands.
Dimensions: Approx. 39 cm x 213 cm (includes 1 cm side fringe and 6 cm tassels). Weight: 202g. It has a soft, exceptionally light finish.
The atmosphere changes depending on how you wrap it, so please enjoy its various expressions.
The colors are created by combining several yarns of different thicknesses. Due to the high number of yarns used, this is a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
After weaving, the scarf is thoroughly washed. Because it is handwoven, the shrinkage and width may not be perfectly uniform—please appreciate this as the unique charm of handmade work.
All finished handwoven pieces undergo a "fulling" process (thorough washing to remove impurities and enhance texture) and are professionally ironed.
They are then stored in non-woven bags and wrapped in turmeric-dyed Furoshiki (cloth). You can use the scarf immediately upon arrival without pre-washing.
"Saori Weaving" is a concept proposed by Misao Jo, defined as "weaving of the senses, giving form to one's thoughts and emotions in the moment."
