Maple Leaf Hairpin - Brass and Hicou Product

As autumn arrives, we're gifted with the changing colors of the trees as they transition towards winter. We've transformed these maple leaves into hairpins using brass and copper. Each hairpin is ¥2000, and you can choose the direction you'd like to wear it. -----What is Hicou?----- Hicou is a technique where copper is heated almost to its melting point, then rapidly cooled in a borax solution. This process fixes a crimson film of copper onto the surface. The precise temperature and timing are still areas I'm refining, which sometimes results in uneven coloring... however, this lends a lovely, organic feel that complements the atmosphere of autumn leaves. As you can see in the images, each piece boasts a unique hue. Being made of brass, you can also look forward to the beautiful patina that develops over time, deepening into an antique finish. The copper also achieves its reddish tone through the hicou technique, which creates a surface film, and this too will age gracefully. (Please note that this coating may peel due to scratches or wear.)
