Chinese Hackberry, Scientific Name Celtis sinensis. A significant native tree species in Taiwan, distributed in the northern and central regions. Its leaves are ornamental in winter, turning a bright yellow. After shedding its leaves, it reveals the profound beauty of bare winter forests, and in spring, new buds emerge, covering the tree in tender green. The Chinese Hackberry (Shi Pu) found south of the central region has smooth, hairless leaves. The "Mao Pu" (Hairy Hackberry) gets its name from the dense hairs on its new shoots and the veins on the underside of its leaves. Its main trunk lines are more graceful. It is hardy and its branching structure possesses a wild charm. With strong sprouting ability and tolerance for pruning, it's easy to cultivate dense foliage. It is exceptionally well-suited for developing into a small-leaf bonsai tree, holding an important place in the Taiwanese bonsai community. Paired with a Yixing rectangular pot over 20 years old. The bottom of the pot bears the mark "Yixing." The designer cultivated this specimen from just a stump over ten years, shaping its primary branches. A mature bonsai tree over 30 years old, with a main trunk approximately 8 cm in diameter. The squat, imposing trunk leans forward (Fig. 8), showcasing evident age. The main trunk is rugged and twisted, a balance of strength and flexibility with natural curvature.
