Giganotosaurus, also known as Southern Giant Lizard, was a dinosaur that lived from 99 to 95 million years ago, belonging to the Carcharodontosauridae family. Its fossil was discovered in Patagonia, Argentina, in 1993, with about 70% completeness. The genus name means "giant southern lizard." It measured 13.7 meters long, weighed approximately 10.52 tons, and stood 4.2 meters tall. It was the second-largest terrestrial carnivorous dinosaur, known for its powerful bite, and was eventually replaced by more advanced theropod dinosaurs in the Mid-Cretaceous period.
