Originally, it was used to describe a well-trained fighting cock, which is very calm and motionless in any situation. In Zhuangzi's story, the fighting cock that looks like a "wooden chicken" is actually used to describe a person who is well-educated and has a steady attitude, hence the saying "a wooden chicken is raised".
