In ancient times, indigenous people living near the Caribbean Sea called this ore the "Stone of Atlantis," a remnant from the legendary lost world of Atlantis. Larimar was named by the geologist who discovered it, combining his daughter's name, Larissa, with the Spanish word Mar (meaning sea), signifying "unparalleled blue." It is a copper-bearing pectolite, formed in the crevices of volcanic rocks, making it difficult to find, and large rough stones are even rarer. As its name suggests, this gemstone carries an oceanic blue hue, sometimes appearing in blue-green tones, with the characteristic white stripes resembling ocean waves.
