I create my works based on the traditional Japanese craft of Ikkanbari. Ikkanbari is a method of decorating a basket product with white washi paper, then decorating it with colored washi paper or cloth, and finally applying persimmon tannins and water-based varnish.
It is a craft that requires finishing. Many of the pieces use old fabrics and paper, but my work uses more everyday materials.
I used cut-outs of black and white abstract patterned fabric (with a fur-like texture) and lined the inside with red washi paper to create contrast. I included two different types of cloth drawstring bags so that you can change the look when you use it. The handles are also covered with cloth.
