Design Concept: A Geometric Dialogue Between Fire and Earth
This is not merely a sake vessel, but a work of art forged through prolonged high-temperature tempering.
[A Breathing Sake Vessel: The Secret to a More Mellow Sake Experience]
This wood-fired sake bottle is not only beautiful but also possesses the practical characteristic of "decanting" the sake.
Because wood-fired sake is not glazed with chemical agents, it retains the original porous structure and rich mineral elements of the clay. When sake or spirits are poured into the bottle, the clay seems to undergo a subtle process of "breathing" with the liquid.
Many collectors have shared that using a wood-fired sake bottle for a short time significantly reduces the harshness (spiciness) of the alcohol, making the sake smoother, sweeter, and more palatable. This is a unique experience that glass or mass-produced porcelain cannot replicate.
Each clean, hand-shaped cut is not only designed for a secure grip in the palm of your hand but also allows the fire marks and ash from the wood-fired process to dance on the geometric lines. After high-temperature firing, the surface of the clay body develops a unique luster reminiscent of bronze and metal—a "kiln transformation" that cannot be replicated artificially, the "kiss" left by the flames on the vessel.
The geometric facets of the bottle exhibit distinct layers under light and shadow. As the sake is poured in, the warmth of the clay is felt in the hand, along with the craftsman's dedication to the craft.
【Features of the Work】
1. Hand-carved Diamond Texture: The geometric facets, hand-carved by the craftsman, not only possess a modern, artistic aesthetic but also offer practical functions such as a non-slip grip.
2. Unique Wood-Fired Ash: Unglazed, the ash naturally fused with the flames at high temperatures. The bottle exhibits a captivating metallic sheen, deep black, and rustic brown—each side presents a different view.
3. Versatile Aesthetics: It serves as a sake pot for enjoying with friends or for solitary contemplation (suitable for both warm and chilled sake). On days when not drinking, it also functions as a Zen-inspired single-stem vase, adding a touch of elegance to any space.
4. Smooth Pouring: The carefully crafted spout angle ensures a clean, drip-free pour.
• Cleaning: Simply wash with a sponge and water. Due to the porous nature of the clay, avoid prolonged soaking in dish soap or oily liquids to prevent the absorption of odors.
• Usage: Suitable for holding sake, shochu, or as a vase. Wood-fired ceramic contains abundant trace elements, which many sake enthusiasts believe soften water, resulting in a smoother and more rounded taste.
• Warming Sake: Sake can be warmed using a double boiler (avoid direct heat).
V. Purchase Notes
• Regarding color difference: All wood-fired pieces retain their natural ash color, making each piece unique in color and fire mark distribution. This is precisely the charm of wood-fired ceramics and not a flaw.
• Handcrafted marks: Due to the purely handmade nature of the process and firing, slight variations in size, surface particles, or pores are normal phenomena.
