The legend of Mazu
Mazu's original name was "Meizhou Lin's daughter". In the Qing Dynasty, she was named Lin Mo according to the records of Tianfei's appearance, and she was often called "Lin Mo's mother". Qing Dynasty historian Zhao Yi recorded an interesting legend about Mazu in the Taiwan Strait. If you are in a shipwreck and cry out to the gods for help, if you say "Mazu", Mazu will immediately come to the rescue without applying makeup.
If called "Tianfei", Mazu would come to rescue people dressed up and graceful, so she would arrive very late. Therefore, people at sea call her "Mazu" and dare not call her "Tianfei". They hope that Mazu will come to rescue the fishing boat in the shipwreck immediately.

Mazu belief is a common folk belief in Taiwan. Most of the early immigrants crossed the sea from South China, and they were frightened. Since Taiwan is surrounded by sea and there are frequent maritime activities, Mazu, the goddess of the sea, has become an important spiritual trust for Taiwanese people.
A native of Putian County, Fujian Road
After her emergence, it was rumored that the "image of a beautiful woman with long hair and no make-up in red" would appear when the waves were stormy and could deflect typhoons and ensure safe navigation. Coastal sailors and fishermen worshiped her and formed a belief in her.

"Mazu" was originally "Mazu who goes to the sea" and is only the patron saint of fishermen.
But Mazu in Taiwan has become the patron saint of "Mazu crossing the sea" to pray for safe passage to Taiwan.
Although a large number of pilgrims come to Meizhou Mazu Temple every year to offer incense, in fact Taiwanese Mazu can be said to have taken root in this land and has become a Taiwanese local deity independent of traditional Mazu.

According to the legend of Mazu in Taiwan, Mazu used her skirt to block the air-dropped bombs dropped by the US military during World War II. It is said that the U.S. military involved in the operation witnessed the incident.
In the early years after the war, he went to Lukang for sightseeing and went to Thean Hou Temple to pay homage to the Mazu statue. He discovered that he had seen a flying goddess in white floating in the sky on the plane, carrying bombs in her long skirt, and throwing them to the soft ground on the beach.
The goddess looked like Mazu from the Tianhou Palace, so she told her friend in Lukang, the tour guide, what happened to her. The story of Mazu transforming into a rescuer spread widely. Original excerpt from: Wikipedia
