✦ Notes
・Each ceramic piece is handmade, so slight variations in size and glaze intensity are to be expected. Minor imperfections like specks, small air bubbles, or black dots are characteristic of handmade pottery and should be considered before purchase.
・Product photos are taken in natural light, aiming to represent the original colors as accurately as possible. However, slight variations may occur due to display screen differences.
・The colored glaze meets food safety standards and is safe for contact with food.
✦ Care Instructions
・Before First Use
We recommend placing the ceramic piece in a large pot, covering it with rice water, and simmering gently for about 15-20 minutes. The starch in the rice water will fill the microscopic pores on the surface, helping to enhance stain resistance. After it cools naturally, wash, dry, and allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area before use.
・Daily Cleaning
Ceramics have relatively high water absorbency. It is advisable to wash the item promptly after use and avoid prolonged soaking. Clean as you would any other tableware, then dry and allow to air dry in a well-ventilated area.
・Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as rinsing with hot or cold water, as this may cause the ceramic to crack due to thermal shock.
✦ Brand Philosophy
During a particularly exhausting time, I came across a Japanese phrase: 「ほっと一息つきませんか?」 which translates to "Wouldn't you like to take a moment to relax?" This is often used when enjoying a cup of coffee, taking a short trip, or unwinding after completing work.
Creating pottery offers a small space and time for respite amidst a busy life. Although pottery making involves constant facing of failures, having at least one thing you love to focus on wholeheartedly, pouring much energy into it, can bring a sense of calm to both mind and body. Thus, the brand name "Hitoiki" (一息), meaning "a breath" or "a moment to rest," serves as a reminder to pause, no matter how busy life gets.
We hope that the daily ware crafted by Hitoiki can accompany you in enjoying moments of ease and comfort.
