Framed print of an engraving by Dirk Harting (1884–1970), Dutch artist known for his detailed architectural and townscape drawings depicting historic Dutch streets and buildings. Harting focused on local heritage scenes and traditional urban architecture, often capturing quiet corners of older Dutch towns with careful perspective and atmospheric subtlety. This piece, titled “Huis met luifel” (“House with Awning”), depicts a historic stepped-gable brick house with a small awning along a narrow cobbled street. The composition reflects Harting’s documentary-style approach to Dutch cityscapes. It is a print, signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The inscription on the reverse reads “near Lange Jan,” likely referring to the Lange Jan tower in Middelburg, indicating the location of the scene. Also written on the back: “geschenk van notaris en mevrouw Knoppert in 1931” (“gift from notary and Mrs. Knoppert in 1931”), documenting its presentation as a gift in that year. Presented in a simple wooden frame, behind glass, consistent with early to mid-20th century framing. In fairly good vintage condition with age-related toning to the paper and mount as well as wear on the frame and surface marks. The photographs are a part of the description.
