Material Selection The leather used by "Cutting Line" is all Grade A, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material and the tannery uses a vegetable-tanning process that causes minimal damage to the leather, minor "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins" are unavoidable on the surface. We do our best to avoid these areas or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product during cutting. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done by hand. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which creates the beautiful wavy stitch effect, distinguishing it from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather craftsman imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Finished Edges Before completion, the edges of the leather are meticulously sanded and burnished. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cutting Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a level surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge-finishing wax is applied and buffed with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses American-imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes. To achieve an even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, a sponge is used to apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is reached. After drying, a color fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with clean water to remove any surface dust and ensure a more uniform color. As the dyeing process is entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
