October 30th Notes:
Is it possible to find surprising, memorable beans from Guatemala?
Not likely. In fifteen years of experience, I've never had such an impression. Only "El Injerto Estate" has changed my perspective. El Injerto Estate has three magical aspects. First, the drive from the capital to the estate takes at least eight to nine hours of a "hard-seat" journey. At the end of the wilderness, there's an ATM set up just for them?
Second, in 2012, they set a world record for the highest price for competition beans at $500 USD per pound of green beans (equivalent to NT$1000 cost per cup). This was more expensive than Geisha varieties. Having tasted them back then, I can say I was truly fortunate. The legendary Mocca variety green beans are now almost impossible to find in Taiwan. And now, in 2025, many competition prices have far surpassed El Injerto, yet their beans, like Panama Elida, possess a unique, memorable character upon the first sip.
Third, introduced for the first time in ten years, that familiar taste in my heart remains unchanged. The essence of the soil and the human touch are always reflected in this cup of coffee. Japanese master craftsman, Katsuji Ombo, also stated in an interview that Guatemalan beans have a unique bitterness and astringency, which, after appropriate roasting, becomes a flavor he deeply loves. Please taste it together. This bean was also the second-best selling item at the Taichung Coffee Exhibition! I'm truly delighted.
